DANAO CITY is the first town founded in the northeastern part of Cebu and is the second largest of the 13 territorial units of Cebu.
This second class component city is located at the center of the towns of Carmen to the north, Asturias and Balamban in the west, Compostela on the South and the Camotes Island to the east.
This 18,019 hectare city is composed of 42 coastal and mountain barangays and has a young household population of 136,471.
Danao’s economy is primarily based on industrial and agricultural production with Livestock and Poultry operations. The eleven (11) kilometer shoreline of Danao remained the potential source of aqua marine products brought by Commercial Fishing and Aquaculture Development. Danao City, a 3rd class component city in the Province of Cebu is located 33 kilometers away from Cebu City and is the second largest of the 13 territorial units of Metro Cebu.
It is bounded by the town of Carmen to the north; Compostela to the south; the Camotes Sea to the east and the towns of Tuburan, Asturias and Balamban to the west.
With a land area of approximately 18,019 hectares, it is composed of 42 barangays.
There was no exact data on how Danao got its name but elders believe that it originated from the native word “Danawan” which means pond.
The City of Danao has about 226.5 hectares or 1.25% cultivated to various agricultural crops. A lot of these lands can be recommended for controlled forestry, commercial tree plantation, grazing and tourism.
Its climatic condition is characterized by not very pronounced wet and dry seasons.

The basic health services in Danao City through the City Health Services Office (CHSO) provides preventive and curative health care.
Danao City established 33 barangay health stations with 112 barangay health workers.
Health services includes: maternal and child care, immunization, treatment of simple medical condition, nutrition, family planning, sanitary health care, health education and others.
Danao City has 2 hospitals, a privately-owned and a government-run facility.
This 100 bed capacity public hospital is strategically located at the town proper within a 8,459 sq.m. property. It serves as accessible medical facility for the neighboring towns.
Moreover, there about 17 licensed birthing homes or lying-in clinics in danao city.

To create a good quality of life and ecologically-balanced community, the leaders continue to create facilities, guidelines and ordinances to support the preparation of a more comprehensive system plan that will improve the current solid waste management system- one of which is the city’s 10 year solid waste management plan.
City risk reduction and management council (cdrrmc) have initiated the development of a Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan and Climate Change Adaptation Plan (DRRM-CCA) to guide the integration of risk reduction agenda into on-going governance and ensuring development and economic services in the Eastern part of Cebu.
