DANAO CITY, March 25, 2024 – With the end of March nearing, Danao City successfully wraps
up its Women’s Month celebration which highlighted 20 diverse activities and programs meant to
honor and empower Danawanon women.

All month-long, Danao City is filled with various events and festivities, including free services,
fun activities, sports events and trade fairs, all aimed at bringing the community together in
celebration of women.

However, the celebration goes beyond just entertainment, as the city also conducts seminars and
trainings to empower and capacitate Danawanon women, equipping them with the knowledge and
skills needed to thrive in various aspects of life. Among the trainings are the Danawomen
Leadership Camp, Barangay Workers Summit and VAWC Refresher Course.

Another highlight during this month-long celebration is the Search for ‘My Wonder Juana 2024’
which becomes a much anticipated event every year. This search seeks to find an inspiring Juana
who has overcome life’s challenges and exemplifies the role of women in advocating for
empowerment and promoting a gender-responsive environment. Through this search, Danao City
hopes to shine a spotlight on the remarkable stories and achievements of women in the community.

Additionally, yesterday marked the prestigious Beatriz Duterte Durano Women in Public Service
Awarding, an event that honors Danawanon women who have shown great leadership and
commitment in their respective barangays. This award acknowledges their remarkable input to
public service, highlights their advocacy for gender inclusion and provides encouragement and
inspiration for younger generations of women.

The Danao City Local Council for Women spearheads these initiatives, reaffirming its
commitment in advancing the rights and welfare of women in the community. Through these
efforts, Danao City continues to foster an environment where women are valued, empowered and
given the opportunity to thrive, HERE AND NOW.

As the Women’s Month celebration comes to an end, Danao City remains steadfast in its dedication
in championing the rights and empowerment of women, not just for a month, but throughout the
year.

“You (women) set the platform for success on and off the limelights, concluding that behind men’s
triumph is a woman in power. Redeeming the past. Strengthening the present. Bearing the future’s
hope… Sidlak Kababayen-an’g Danawanon” – Mayor Thomas Mark ‘Mix’ Durano.
