In its continued commitment to strengthen the fisheries sector and promote sustainable livelihoods, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Danao City, in collaboration with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region VII through the Provincial Fishery Office of Cebu, has extended livelihood support amounting to nearly ₱270,000 to local fisherfolk beneficiaries.

This initiative is implemented under BFAR’s “Banca Ko, Gawa Ko” program, which equips recipients with both training and material resources to boost productivity and self-reliance in the fisheries sector. Beneficiaries underwent hands-on training in the construction of fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) boats, empowering them with skills aligned with sustainable boat-building technologies.

As part of the assistance package, the following were distributed:

One (1) unit of 20-foot FRP boat equipped with a 7.5 HP marine engine and complete accessories;
One (1) unit of 30-foot FRP boat hull;
One (1) unit each of 16 HP and 7.5 HP marine engines with full accessories.
In addition, BFAR provided the following essential fishing gear to augment the operational capacities of fisherfolk:

Three (3) units of gill nets;
Fourteen (14) units of multiple hook and line;
Five (5) units of fish pots.
To further support inland aquaculture development, BFAR also dispersed 50,000 tilapia fry sourced from the Lake Danao Freshwater Fish Farm (LDFFF), reinforcing the city’s growing aquaculture initiatives.

This integrated livelihood intervention reflects the shared vision of the LGU and BFAR to enhance marine and freshwater fisheries productivity in Danao through capacity-building, technology adoption, and resource provision—ultimately improving the socio-economic conditions of fisherfolk communities.
