July 28, 2025– Since its inception in 2009, Danao City’s Livestock Dispersal Program has served as a model for sustainable, community-based livelihood development.

Spearheaded under the leadership of Mayor Nito Durano, the program continues to deliver long-term economic support to rural households, especially those engaged in backyard farming and animal husbandry.

On its latest milestone, Mayor Nito Durano, Vice Mayor Ivy Durano, and other city officials led the formal turnover of six (6) heads of cattle to qualified recipients at the City Veterinary Services Office (CVSO).

The dispersal supports the local government’s broader commitment to inclusive growth and community resilience through accessible livelihood programs.

To date, the city has distributed a total of 61 heads of cattle since the program began, benefitting a growing number of Danawanon families across multiple barangays. The system operates on a contractual and monitored basis, with each recipient undergoing quarterly evaluation to ensure the proper care, welfare, and sustainable management of the livestock.

According to City Veterinarian Dr. Roque Noya, all interested applicants must coordinate with their respective barangays and meet the following eligibility requirements:

-Must be physically and mentally fit to care for livestock;

– must have attended the required seminar-workshop and basic Artificial Insemination (AI) orientation;

– Must have prior experience in livestock raising and access to adequate shelter space for the animal;

– Must have no pending complaints or disputes within the barangay relating to animal care or welfare.

A key feature of the program is its built-in sustainability mechanism: when a dispersed cow successfully bears offspring, the calf is re-dispersed to another eligible householdβ€”Β  creating a ripple effect of livelihood opportunities and shared community progress.

This livestock dispersal initiative exemplifies how local governments can institutionalize inclusive and scalable solutions to rural economic challenges, while nurturing a culture of responsibility and cooperation at the grassroots level.

“The help may start with one family, but the impact is shared by the whole community,” Mayor Nito Durano remarked, reinforcing the program’s vision of collective empowerment.

With continuous innovation and hands-on implementation, the City of Danao remains committed to uplifting every Danawanon household through sustainable and inclusive public service.
