2nd Quarter Nationwide Earthquake Drill

Danao City, June 19, 2025 — The Danao City Government leads today’s 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED), after being chosen once again by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 7 as the official pilot area in Central Visayas.

At exactly 9:00 AM, the familiar siren sounds off across the city. In response, employees, clients, and students immediately execute the Duck-Cover-Hold, followed by a full-scale evacuation and emergency response simulation at the City Hall flagpole area.

The drill is spearheaded by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Rescue 211, in close coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection-Danao (BFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Philippine Coast Guard, as well as partner volunteers from SAFARI and the Nursing Department of Colegio de San Antonio de Padua.

The activity highlights the importance of community-wide preparedness and inter-agency coordination in responding to disasters. “This is not just protocol — this is about saving lives,” says CDRRMO Chief Engr. Jikjik Reyes, emphasizing the need to rehearse for the unexpected.

Danao City, under the leadership of Mayor Mix Durano, continues to uphold high standards in disaster resilience. This commitment is recently recognized through the city’s Gawad KALASAG Seal of Excellence (Beyond Compliant) Award for 2024, a national recognition for exceeding preparedness, response, and risk reduction standards set by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Today’s drill reaffirms Danao City’s proactive stance in protecting its people and building a disaster-ready community — a city that is MORE THAN READY, HERE AND NOW.
