Danao City, Cebu (April 24, 2025) — Danao City solidifies its position as a rising technology powerhouse as it successfully holds its Digital Town Hall, gathering key stakeholders from both the government and private sector to celebrate and push forward the city’s tech-driven initiatives.

Held at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall, the event highlights the city’s major strides in digital innovation, with the City Information and Communications Technology Office (CICTO) presenting its landmark initiatives and achievements that continue to push Danao toward a fully connected, future-ready economy.

Among the standout programs shared by CICTO-OIC Jaive Roble is the Free WiFi initiative, which now boasts 52 access points, 9 multi-access towers and connectivity across 36 out of 42 barangays—a milestone that reflects the city’s strong commitment to digital inclusion. Roble emphasizes that the city is actively working to achieve full barangay coverage, ensuring no community is left behind in the digital age.

Other projects showcased include Project Rain, Face-to-Face Thru IPBX Video Calling, and various digital infrastructure enhancements designed to improve public service delivery and make technology accessible and efficient for its citizens.

DICT Region 7 Director Frederick Amores, who graces the event alongside other DICT officials, commends Danao City’s visionary leadership and progressive approach.

“I am very happy to see that Danao has actually established WiFi sites… Many years ago, investments in technology were not a priority for many LGUs. So, it is always visionary for the leadership of this LGU to come up with initiatives like these,” Amores shares during his remarks.

Adding to the momentum of digital progress, Danao City and GCash formally enter into a partnership that aims to create a faster, safer and more efficient digital ecosystem for the city. GCash Public Sector Cluster Head Cleo Celeste Santos expresses admiration for the city’s proactive stance on digital transformation.

“We were really amazed knowing that an LGU is this passionate about digitalization… Not all LGUs are open to it… Really amazed by the presentations and all the plans!” Santos says.

“With the support of the City Government—particularly the leadership of Mayor Mix Durano and Vice Mayor Nito Durano—and the guidance of CICTO, we are proud to contribute to Danao’s journey toward becoming a fully digital city. And we will make it happen together, especially with the support of DICT,” she adds
The city’s digital drive is anchored on its broader vision to become a technology powerhouse in the region. Through smart infrastructure, AI-powered solutions and a welcoming ecosystem for innovation and investment, Danao City continues to build its future today.

Danao City Mayor Mix Durano, Vice Mayor Nito Durano and the rest of the local government reaffirm their support for this digital roadmap, recognizing that technological advancement is key to unlocking economic potential and delivering better services to the people.

As Danao City pushes forward, it invites tech innovators, partners and changemakers to be part of this dynamic transformation. The city is not only embracing the future—it is building it,
