December 14, 2024— Danao City is set to make waves once again as it hosts the much- anticipated 2nd Danao City International Ultra Trail on March 22-23, 2025.
Officially announced during today’s press conference, this edition promises to be BIGGER and BETTER as this event, organized by the City Government itself, is sanctioned and recognized by both the Philippine Trail Running Association (PHILTRA) and the International Trail Running Association (ITRA). The race also serves as Championship for Philippine Trail Running, with significant prizes at stake, attracting elite trail runners and enthusiasts from across the Philippines and around the world.
Leading the discussions during the press conference are Danao City Mayor Thomas Mark “Mix” Durano, Committee Chair on Tourism Hon. Ivy Durano, Sports Development Officer Vincent Paolo Sybico, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Roland Reyes, Race Directors Herson Ypil and Roland Laping, and PHILTRA Championship Race Director Boying Milan.
The event features challenging race distances of 15 KM, 35 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM with open elite and various age categories to cater to runners of all levels. Additionally, the PHILTRA Championship Race will feature two exclusive distances—40 km and 80 km.
Danao City’s Five Peaks remain a central feature of the Ultra Trail, with runners traversing through a carefully curated course in Mount Manghilao, Licos Peak, Danasan Peak, Mt. Mago and Lantawan Peak.
These trails offer a mix of steep ascents, rugged terrain and breathtaking views, providing an unforgettable experience for all participants.
“I am so pleased and proud that my city is able to hold this kind of sport. With our expansion of sports tourism into sports eco-trail, this event gives us the coverage we desire, a power-packed opportunity for the tourism boost that we need,” shares Mayor Mix Durano.
Hon. Ivy Durano echoes this sentiment, saying, “Beyond the race, this event underscores our vision of positioning Danao City as a premier destination for adventure tourism. The Ultra Trail not only attracts elite athletes but also families, nature lovers, and local and international tourists who come to witness and participate in the festivities.
Our adventure tourism efforts aim to empower communities, boost the local economy, and promote sustainable practices. By featuring the Five Peaks, we hope to inspire more eco- conscious travelers to explore and protect the beauty of our city.
Unlike its inaugural year, the 2025 edition of the Danao City International Ultra Trail is proudly organized by the City Government of Danao, with support from PHILTRA and ITRA. This partnership ensures a world-class trail running experience while emphasizing sustainable eco-tourism and community engagement.
