The City Government of Danao, through its Public Information Office (PIO), has Duyog Sidlak 2024 in full swing — a groundbreaking initiative delivering essential information directly to all 42 barangays across this geographically expansive city. Spanning coastal areas and predominantly mountain barangays, Danao City’s unique terrain presents challenges that this one-of-a-kind program seeks to address by ensuring every Danawanon has access to vital information and government services, regardless of location.
Launched in 2022, Duyog Sidlak is not just an ordinary information campaign—it represents the city’s thrust to equipping its citizens with knowledge to make informed decisions for families and communities. Through this initiative, the PIO conducts annual household surveys, distributes Information Education Communication (IEC) materials to Puroks, organizes Information Literacy Campaign (ILC) and Assemblies, delivers updates on essential topics, including the city’s top health concerns, accessible free programs and services and practical ways to communicate feedback, complaints and suggestions to the local government.
This year, Duyog Sidlak also highlights national government initiatives such as the EGOV PH App, a digital tool that streamlines access to government services. By introducing programs like EGOV, the campaign bridges the gap between grassroots communities and digital governance, ensuring that no citizen is left behind in the push for innovation and progress – towards Danao City’s Roadmap to Digitalization.
Interactive and engaging, the campaign includes informative videos and discussions on Responsible Social Media Use, Solid Waste Management, Local Health Awareness, Tourism, Public Address Mechanism and more. These efforts are part of Danao City’s strategy to foster a well-informed, empowered, resilient citizenry.
But beyond disseminating information, Duyog Sidlak also serves as a vital platform for engaging with citizens by actively gathering their comments, complaints, feedback and suggestions. These inputs are meticulously collected and analyzed annually, providing city leaders with valuable insights into the needs and concerns of Danawanons. This data-driven approach ensures that government programs and
policies are responsive, targeted and aligned with the community’s priorities.
Duyog Sidlak is just one of the many information initiatives of Danao City, reflecting the leadership of Mayor Thomas Mark “Mix” Durano and Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano. The program not only promotes transparency but also underscores the Durano administration’s vision of empowering Danawanons through information and commitment to inclusive, participatory governance and continuous improvement.
“Duyog Sidlak embodies our commitment to governance that listens, responds and empowers,” says Michelle Mondigo, Danao City Public Information Officer. “This initiative demonstrates that providing the right information can transform communities and create a sustainable future for every Danawanon.”
As a distinctive program in Cebu, Duyog Sidlak reinforces Danao City’s reputation as a trailblazer in participative and inclusive governance. It also sets a benchmark for other local governments to emulate, emphasizing the critical role of accessible information in driving progress and development.
Danao City’s recent recognition as the “Top 1 Most Improved Component City” and “ 2024 SGLG National Awardee” is a testament to the city’s unrelenting pursuit of excellence. Initiatives like Duyog Sidlak exemplify why Danao City is not just improving but setting the standard for what local governance can achieve when it puts people at the heart of its programs.
With Duyog Sidlak rolling out across all 42 barangays, Danao City continues to lead the way in harnessing the power of information, transparency, accountability and citizen engagement to create a vibrant and livable city, Here and Now. Duyog Sidlak Barangay ILC was launched on October 21, 2024 and will culminate on December 2, 2024.
