Danao City, Cebu – Following the successful launch of the Tawsan

Mangrove Forest Ecopark, Danao City unveils its newest tourism initiative today, the Danao

City Walk Tour, a curated experience designed to showcase the city’s rich history and cultural

heritage. Delegates from the Clean Mobility Collective – Southeast Asia (CMC SEA), with

members from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines, are the first to

experience the tour.

Guided by local tour guides who are part of Danao City’s Out-of-School Youth program—now

employed by the City’s Tourism Office—the delegation embarks on a memorable journey

exploring the city’s 12 iconic landmarks and historical sites. This tour provides an authentic

look into the deep-rooted history and progress of Danao City.

Key historical sites visited include the Port of Danao, the Old Spanish Cannon, the Old Public

Market Site, the Commemorative Monument, the Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Church, the

Historical Bell, Cambiohan Rotunda, the Rizal Monument, Danao Elementary School, the First

City Hall, the Spanish Municipal Building Site, and the Old Convent. Each of these landmarks

holds immense significance, not just for Danao City but also in the broader history of the

Province of Cebu, highlighting the city’s contributions to the region’s economic and cultural

journey.

Mayor Thomas Mark “Mix” Durano, Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” D. Durano III, and Committee

Chair on Tourism Hon. Carmen Remedios “Ivy” Durano lead the initiative, reinforcing the

city’s commitment to promoting tourism while preserving its historical and cultural heritage.

In his remarks, Mayor Mix Durano emphasizes the value of creating people-centered tourism

that benefits the local community: “If one wishes to improve tourism, it has to be organic and

community-based. It has to be done at the locality itself to stimulate local growth, to provide a

new market for local businesses and entrepreneurs, to provide an avenue for the development

of local talents and skills. Tourism is a collaborative effort between all stakeholders.”

He further highlights the importance of keeping tourism people-centered, adding: “We must

put to mind that the community must reap all the rewards, the people must be front and center.

Ang kasing-kasing sa turismo kay ang katawhan mismo.”

The Danao City Walk Tour offers three options for guests:

  1. Walk Tour – Free of charge during the ongoing dry-run period.
  2. Bike Tour – Coming soon as an additional tour offering.
  3. Sikad Ride Tour – Priced at ₱200 per tour, benefiting local sikad drivers directly.

This new tourism package aims to provide locals and tourists alike with a deeper appreciation

of Danao City’s past, present and future. Just like the Tawsan Mangrove Forest Ecopark, the

Danao City Walk Tour is now open for registration to anyone eager to explore the city’s rich

culture. Interested individuals can register online through this link WALK TOUR.

Danao City’s ongoing efforts toward sustainable and community-led tourism.

The official launch of the Danao City Walk Tour marks a new chapter in the city’s tourism

journey, inviting everyone to explore its vibrant streets and discover the stories behind each

corner. As Hon. Ivy Durano states, “This is just the beginning of our journey to become a key

player in sustainable tourism. We welcome you all to walk with us, learn with us and build a

future that honors our past, HERE AND NOW.
