SM Seaside Cebu, September 2, 2024- Danao City holds its first-ever Tourism Summit, converging
more than 400 stakeholders, including city officials, industry experts, local businesses and students,
to discuss the future of Danao City’s tourism.
Mayor Mix Durano opens the summit with an inspiring welcome message, emphasizing Danao
City’s resilience, potential and commitment to community-driven tourism initiatives.
The summit, which is the first of its kind in Danao, serves as a platform for unveiling innovative
strategies and initiatives aimed at propelling the city as a premier destination for culture, heritage,
sports, adventure and ecotourism.
The event also celebrates the creative talents of Danawanons through the Karansa Short Film
Festival, where Danao City’s youth filmmakers are recognized for their exceptional work.
Leading the pack is the film “Higayon,” which takes home the top prize for Best Short Film. The
film also earns awards for Best Cinematography and Best Story, solidifying its status as a standout
in this year’s competition.
“Sagubang” secures second place and sweeps accolades for Best Sound Design, Best Editing, Best
Production Design and Best Director. “Gabon,” which places third, wins the awards for Best Poster
and Best Trailer.
In the acting categories, individual talents such as Niño James Bughao and Evita Quismundo take
home the Best Actor and Best Actress awards for their performances in “Murag Anak Sa Datu” and
“Sa Wa Damha,” respectively. Jastine Ray Narvasa and Tess Montes are recognized as Best
Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress for their roles in the same films.
As the summit concludes, participants express optimism about the future of Danao City’s tourism
sector. The event is a resounding success, marking a significant milestone for Danao City as it
continues to position itself as a vibrant and livable destination, both locally and internationally.
