As the Holy Week continues, Danao City showcases its
heartwarming display of devotion and rich cultural heritage through its Procession Santo Entierro
this Good Friday, featuring 38 intricately decorated floats/ Carrozas, each bearing witness to the
story of Christ’s passion and resurrection.

Danao, as a City of Faith, Heritage and Pilgrimage, takes pride in its deep-rooted religious customs,
as families from across the city diligently prepared their Carrozas, pouring their hearts into
preserving and honoring the traditions passed down through generations.

The participation of Danawanon families as Camareros, or caretakers of the Carrozas, further
enriches the significance of the procession.

As the procession winds its way through the streets of Danao City, echoing with prayers and
hymns, residents and visitors pause and reflect on the profound solemnity of Christ’s sacrifice.

Looking ahead, Danao City eagerly anticipates the culmination of its Semana Santa festivities
through the ‘Sugat sa Kabanhawan’ this Sunday, where the Danawanon Catholic Community will
come together to celebrate the joyous occasion of Christ’s resurrection and the promise of new life
and salvation.

From its Jesus Nazareno Procession last Holy Wednesday, to its Procession Santo Entierro and
Sugat sa Kabanhawan, the Semana Santa sa Danao City serves as a powerful reminder of the
enduring spirit of faith and tradition that continues to thrive in the city and the heart of the
Pamilya’ng Danawanon, HERE AND NOW.

Amidst the celebrations, Danao City also looks forward to its future role as the seat of the proposed
Diocese of Northern Cebu.

The Catholic bishops’ leadership has endorsed the proposed division of the Archdiocese of Cebu,
aiming to create two new suffragan dioceses—Carcar in the south and Danao in the north.

In this proposed partition, the Diocese of Danao and its seat shall be established at the Sto. Tomas
de Villanueva Parish in Danao City, a parish with a rich history dating back to its establishment in
1671, making it one of the oldest parishes in the Philippines.
