January 24, 2024 marks a pivotal moment for the residents of Barangay Togonon in Danao City,
as City Mayor Hon. Thomas Mark “Mix” Durano leads the groundbreaking ceremony of a vital
infrastructure project in the area, the 6.8-million-peso ‘Steel Foot Bridge’.

The Steel Foot Bridge, spanning 40 meters, is a strategic initiative which aims to alleviate the
challenges faced by residents when crossing the river, especially during high water levels or floods.
It will also be equipped with solar lights, ensuring that it remains well-lit during nighttime.

This essential infrastructure project, conceptualized to enhance safety, accessibility and
convenience, is expected to be completed in the 3rd quarter of 2024 and will benefit not only
Barangay Togonon but also residents from neigboring barangays of Nangka and Sibacan.

The ceremony, held at the project site, is attended by city officials, department heads and
community members. Among the attendees is the family that experienced the perilous nature of
crossing the river during a flood. Their harrowing experience of narrowly escaping the danger is
one of the city’s motivating factors behind this project. Expressing their thoughts on the initiative,

The initiation of the Steel Foot Bridge project follows a public hearing held in August of the
previous year, where the proposal received support from the community.

With construction now underway, the project represents the collaborative effort between the city
government and the community. Likewise, the city’s other ongoing projects, such as the Museo de
Danao, are currently under construction, and preparations for the construction of Merkado sa
Danao are in progress. These projects showcase the City Government of Danao’s commitment to
infrastructure development and are all part of the city’s renewed direction—a sustainable and
climate-resilient economic hub that is vibrant, livable, and competent, uplifting the quality of life
of its people, HERE AND NOW.
