As aid to the Deaf Community in Danao City, the local government distributed yesterday sacks of rice to 50 members who had an initial dialogue with the City Government communicating its intent to form a registered association.

Vice Mayor Mix Durano, together with City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and CDRRMO expressed support in the creation of this organized and registered community group for the deaf.

Vice Mayor Mix is optimistic that through the creation and registration of this association, programs, services and job opportunities will be provided for them. The dialogue between the government and the deaf community was made possible through Danao CDRRMO’s Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DiDRR).

The City Government is looking forward to collaborate with this association – to include educating the public about the deaf community. At present, Danao City has a 96 registered deaf community members composed of 12 children and 84 adults.
