April 21-23, 2026 (Cordova, Cebu)— Danao City Government, through its City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), successfully concluded a three-day Basic Incident Command System (ICS) Training in partnership with the Office of Civil Defense Region VII.

The training reinforces Danao City’s sustained institutional commitment to the Incident Command System— an internationally recognized framework and backed by the enacted of R.A. 10121 (Philippine DRRM Act of 2010) for coordinated emergency response that has long been embedded in the city’s disaster management operations.

Local officials emphasized that ICS has consistently enhanced operational efficiency through clear command structures, streamlined communication, and rapid, coordinated action during incidents and disasters.

Despite its established use in the city, the ICS framework continues to be strengthened through regular, ladderized capacity-building initiatives across various departments of the local government. This recent training represents a foundational step in deepening competencies and ensuring alignment with evolving standards in disaster risk reduction and management.

“The community deserves a system that is organized, responsive, and effective,” Danao CDRRMO Chief Jikjik Reyes noted, underscoring that ICS adoption is not merely procedural but essential to safeguarding public welfare. As a global protocol, ICS certification within local government units is attained through structured, progressive training—  of which the Basic ICS course forms a critical entry point.

Danao City also highlighted its growing pool of certified ICS trainers, including CDRRMO Reyes and trainer Gerick Juntilla, reflecting the city’s internal capacity to sustain and expand its disaster preparedness programs.

More than 40 participants from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, and various local government departments took part in the training.

Modules covered key ICS principles, including incident planning, resource management, interoperability, and transfer of command—  core components in ensuring a unified and efficient response to emergencies.

While ICS adoption remains uneven among local government units nationwide, Danao City continues to prioritize its institutionalization.

Under the leadership of Mayor Nito Durano and Vice Mayor Ivy Durano, the city has pursued sustained investments in strengthening its incident management system to ensure coordinated, timely, and effective responses for all Danawanons.

For Danao City, preparedness is not a one-time effort but an ongoing process—  continuously studied, reinforced, and improved to build a safer, more resilient community.
