April 19, 2026— Danao City Government successfully unfolds its International Ultra Trail (DCIUT) on April 18–19, 2026, drawing 908 participants across four race categories (15KM, 35KM, 50KM, and 100KM) and reinforcing Danao City’s growing stature in the international trail running scene.
This year’s race featured a strong field of elite local and international athletes from Nepal, Denmark, Switzerland, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, India and Vietnam, bringing with them a depth of experience marked by national titles, international podium finishes, and championship wins. Their presence elevated the level of competition and underscored Danao’s emergence as a serious contender on the global trail map.
The course pushed runners across Danao’s five iconic peaks— Mt. Lantawan, Mt. Mago, Danasan Peak, Licos Peak, and Mt. Manghilao— delivering a demanding combination of more than 6,000 meters of elevation gain, technical terrain, slippery sections, and intense heat.
These conditions tested even the most seasoned ultra trail runners, particularly in the 100KM category, where only 77 finishers successfully completed the distance.
A total of 100 runners took on the 100KM, alongside 247 in the 50KM, 257 in the 35KM, and 304 in the 15KM—each category contributing to a race defined not only by performance, but by resilience. Recognized as a Philippine Trail Running Championship Qualifier, and listed under the Asia Trail
Master Grandmaster Quest Calendar, DCIUT3 also serves as a qualifying event for International Trail Running Association (ITRA) points, further solidifying its international credibility.
With over ₱1 million in total cash prizes, including ₱100,000, ₱70,000, and ₱40,000 for the top three finishers in the 100KM category— with different distances and age groups— the event attracted some of the region’s most competitive athletes.
The race is co-presented by the Cebu Provincial Government and the Department of Tourism Region VII, reflecting strong institutional support for sports tourism in the region.
Beyond competition, DCIUT3 distinguished itself through powerful stories that unfolded along the trail— moments of unity, compassion, and unexpected connection.
From runners crossing the finish line together, to athletes guiding one another through difficult terrain, and to Danao’s gentle creature offering companionship ang guidance to trail runners, this year’s edition highlighted a deeper narrative— that in Danao, the true victory lies in shared
humanity and the spirit of family.
This ethos aligns closely with the Connectivity Agenda under the Durano Administration, which emphasizes not only physical infrastructure, but the strengthening of human connections, community engagement, and inclusive opportunities.
Through initiatives like DCIUT3, Danao City continues to position itself as a Gateway of Opportunities— where sport, tourism, and community intersect.
Under the leadership of City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, the city has maintained a strong push for sports development as a platform for youth engagement, wellness, and international exposure.
DCIUT3 stands as a testament to this commitment, bringing together athletes, communities, and cultures on one challenging yet inspiring stage.
As the trails settle and the stories continue to resonate, DCIUT3 leaves behind more than race results— it leaves a mark of what is possible when endurance meets purpose, and when a city runs forward together.
