March 17-18, 2026— The City Government of Danao City convenes its barangay VAWC Desk Officers for a two-day consultation-dialogue and capability-building activity at Danao City Police Station dubbed “VOW to End VAW: A Pledge for Safety and Justice for Danawanon Women and Children” reinforcing its commitment to protect women and children and ensure accessible justice at the community level.
The activity focuses on strengthening frontline response through sessions led by the PNP Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD), the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and legal practitioners.
Topics include proper handling of clients and abused victims, requirements in filing cases, and key laws such as Republic Act No. 7610, Republic Act No. 8353, and Republic Act No. 9208.
Discussions also cover Rule 113 on warrantless arrests, Republic Act No. 9262 (VAWC Act), and Republic Act No. 9344 (Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act), complemented by open forums where barangay officers raise real cases, concerns, and clarifications.
An orientation on the Integrated Care Management Protocol (ICMP) for children allegedly involved in dangerous drugs is also conducted, alongside the presentation of reported VAWC cases for the first quarter of 2026 to guide data-driven interventions.
As part of strengthening information access, the City Public Information Office (PIO) turns over VAWC Help and Referral System IEC materials, including posters and brochures, to all 42 barangays— ensuring that every community has visible, accessible points of assistance for victims.
Mayor Nito Durano emphasizes the critical role of barangay VAWC Desk Officers as first responders and trusted community anchors, underscoring the need for every barangay to maintain a functional and visible VAWC help desk within their respective barangay halls.
The initiative also aligns with the Connectivity Agenda which goes beyond infrastructure to ensure that essential services, protection mechanisms, and information are directly connected to the people. By strengthening grassroots response systems, the city continues to position itself as a gateway of opportunities—where safety, awareness, and access to justice empower communities.
“As an Information Office, we recognize that information is not just about awareness— it is protection. When people know where to go and what to do, they become stronger, and justice becomes more reachable,” the City Information Officer emphasized.
Through sustained coordination among agencies and empowered barangay officers, Danao City reaffirms its commitment to building a safe, secure, and responsive community, where no woman or child is left unheard or unprotected.
