The City Government of Danao continues to strengthen its close coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 7 to ensure that infrastructure projects in the city are properly aligned with local priorities, particularly the rehabilitation of facilities damaged by Typhoon Tino.
In the previous year, Mayor Nito Durano declined to issue a permit for a road rehabilitation project that was still considered serviceable, and instead appealed to the Office of the President to prioritize projects addressing more urgent needs in the city.
After the request was approved, a joint inspection of the proposed projects was conducted with DPWH, together with Mayor Durano, the City Planning Office, and the City Engineering Office to assess the actual conditions on the ground and review the program of works.
Among those inspected were the proposed slope protection projects in Barangay Guinacot, Danao City, Cebu, Philippines and Barangay Suba.
During a coordination meeting on February 19, 2026, Mayor Durano emphasized that all DPWH projects within Danao should undergo coordination with the local government, including review of the program of works, to ensure alignment between DPWH plans and the direction of the City Engineering Office.
During the most recent site inspection conducted by the city government on March 10, 2026, several technical aspects of the proposed projects were reviewed, prompting the Mayor to request a clarificatory meeting with the DPWH to further discuss and align the details.
Responding to the request, Engr. Simon Arias, Officer-in-Charge Regional Director of DPWH Region VII, personally attended the coordination meeting at the DPWH 5th District Office, together with district engineers and technical personnel.
During the meeting, DPWH officials explained their program design approach, clarified the scope of the proposed projects, and provided updates on the status of the budget allocation. Officials noted that while funding requirements for the projects have been identified, the timeline for implementation will depend on the approval of the DPWH Central Office.
Among other key issues discussed by the city were the recurring flooding along the Sabang–Canlingo, maintenance concerns involving solar streetlights, and the need for drainage declogging along national roads, particularly in Barangay Looc.
The city also emphasized the establishment of discipline zones along national roads, including stricter monitoring of contractors to ensure that excess construction materials are properly cleared to maintain road safety and order.
Through sustained collaboration, the City Government of Danao and DPWH aim to ensure that infrastructure investments are aligned with the city’s priorities and that public funds are maximized for the safety and welfare of the Danawanon community.
