The City Government of Danao continues to strengthen its electricity and fuel conservation efforts as part of responsible austerity measures, resource management and fiscal discipline supporting priority development programs under the leadership of Mayor Nito Durano and Vice Mayor Ivy Durano.
Beginning July 23, 2025, the city implemented a comprehensive energy efficiency initiative aligned with the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) of the Department of Energy, including the designation of Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) Associates in every office to assist the EEC Officer, focal persons, and coordinators in ensuring compliance with national guidelines.
The Mayor’s memorandum prescribes practical measures such as proper vehicle maintenance and fuel-efficient driving practices, avoiding engine idling, scheduling trips to minimize unnecessary travel, setting air-conditioning units at 24°C, limiting ACU operation from 9AM to 4PM, using LED lighting systems, activating sleep settings on office equipment, and turning off lights and computers during breaks and after office hours.
Early results already show the advantage of these measures, with electricity expenses dropping from ₱1,771,978.15 in July to ₱1,450,114.62 in August. Overall, since implementation, the city recorded a 4.49% decrease in electricity consumption, a 5.87% reduction in electricity expenses, around ₱96,686 in average monthly savings, and roughly ₱580,119 in total savings within six months.
Mayor Durano emphasized that the city will continue the strict implementation of these conservation measures, with stronger monitoring across departments to ensure compliance.
He also noted that the 4-day work week arrangement encouraged by the President is being carefully studied as a complementary step that could further improve efficiency and savings— especially as contingency to the effects of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
According to Mayor Nito, these efforts align with the city’s Smiling City Hall Program— not only making government services more welcoming and responsive, but also ensuring that public resources are managed wisely and conserved so that the people’s taxes are directed to the right programs, priority projects, and essential services that truly benefit the communities of Danao City.
