DANAO CITY, Cebu — The City of Danao successfully hosted the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) 2026, welcoming 3,268 delegates, coaches and officials from 11 school divisions across Central Visayas for several days of competitions, learning and celebration of campus journalism.

Delegates from across Region VII began arriving in Danao City on March 2, with the contest proper starting on March 3, followed by the Grand Opening Program on March 4 at the Ramon M. Durano Sr. Sports Complex. The regional gathering concluded on March 7 with the Closing Program and Awarding Ceremony at the Colegio de San Antonio de Padua, where outstanding campus journalists were recognized for their achievements in various journalism categories.

Participants represented the school divisions of Bohol Province, Carcar City, Cebu City, Cebu Province, Naga City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Tagbilaran City, Talisay City, Toledo City, and host division Danao City, showcasing their skills in news writing, broadcasting, photojournalism, editorial writing, digital media, and other fields of campus journalism.

The successful staging of RSPC 2026 was made possible through the strong support of the City Government of Danao, led by Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III and Vice Mayor Ivy Durano, together with the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) Danao City Division headed by Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Roseller Gelig.

In his message during the opening ceremony, Mayor Nito underscored the crucial role of young journalists in shaping society through truth and responsible storytelling.

“You have a bigger responsibility in shaping this world. The future you wish to live in depends highly on the words, the facts, and the truths you speak of,” Mayor Durano said.

He also encouraged the delegates to pursue journalism with integrity, curiosity and courage, reminding them to remain committed to seeking and telling the truth.

Throughout the event, delegates participated in various journalism competitions and activities that highlighted ethical reporting, critical thinking and responsible communication among the youth.

As host city, Danao proudly welcomed the region’s brightest campus journalists, showcasing not only its facilities but also the warmth, hospitality and strong partnership between the local government, educators, and the community in supporting youth development and media literacy.

The City Government of Danao expressed its gratitude to the Department of Education, partner institutions, organizers, volunteers, schools, and delegates whose cooperation and dedication contributed to the successful hosting of RSPC 2026.
