The Cebu Provincial Government, in partnership with Chong Hua Hospital, University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed), Cebu Medical Society and the City Government of Danao, successfully carries out its two-day Medical and Surgical Mission on August 16–17, 2025 at the Cebu Provincial Hospital – Danao City.
This historic collaboration, held in celebration of the 456th Founding Anniversary of Cebu Province, marks the second leg of Capitol’s province-wide health initiative wherein top private hospitals and organizations join forces with the Capitol to deliver large-scale free medical and surgical services to Cebuanos.
During the Danao leg, a total of 633 procedures are performed, including:
- 59 major surgeries, such as thyroidectomies, mastectomies, laparoscopic procedures, fracture repairs, and amputations;
- 74 minor surgeries, including excisions and AVF creations for dialysis patients;
- 203 general consultations (170 adult and 33 pediatric);
- 70 dental check-ups and 85 tooth extractions;
- 96 HIV screenings;
- 46 legal aid consultations; and
- Diagnostic services such as UTZ, CT scan, ECG, and X-ray.
The surgical procedures, amounting to nearly ₱10 million according to Cebu Provincial Government data, are all provided free of charge to patients, many of whom would otherwise struggle to access such costly treatments.
This mission is part of the province-wide health initiative launched by the Capitol and serves as an immediate response while the Provincial Government continues its efforts to repair, upgrade, and modernize Cebu’s district and provincial hospitals.
Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, in his welcome message, thanks Governor Baricuatro for making healthcare a true priority of the province:
Mayor Nito also reaffirms Danao City’s continuing efforts in expanding local health services:
“On our part, the Danao City Health Services Office will continue to widen and improve our free services to the people of Danao. Amo ipadayon ug palapdan ang mga mobile clinic nga amo gipahigayon sa tanang 42 ka barangay sa Dakbayan. Palapdan namo ang paghatag og libreng serbisyo ug paghatod og tambal sa tanang suok sa Danao. Kini maoy gamay namong tampo nganha sa imong panlantaw para sa Probinsya.”
The successful conduct of this historic public-private partnership marks not only a breakthrough for the Province of Cebu but also a milestone for Danao City as it highlights the alignment of the Provincial and City Governments in ensuring that healthcare is accessible and inclusive.
The Danao City Government extends its deepest gratitude to all doctors, nurses, and volunteers who share their time, skills and compassion in making this mission a success.
